Weymouth, only 17 miles away, is famous as a typical English seaside resort with its sandy beaches, while nearby Portland offers watersports, sailing and an open air sculpture park in Tout quarry which supplied much of the stone used in the rebuilding of London by Sir Christopher Wren.
