Introduction
Norburton Hall offers award-winning bed and breakfast and luxury self catering accommodation in Burton Bradstock on the picturesque coast of Dorset, England. The beautiful “Arts and Crafts” period hall is set in 6 acres of mature gardens with views over the village and countryside towards the sea. The service we offer is personalised and friendly to make your stay as comfortable and special as we can. We have an extensive website with details and views of all our accommodation to help you select the best accommodation to suit your needs.
We can book taxis for guests who wish to travel by train (please let us know in advance). Several railway stations are close to Norburton Hall. They are:
• Dorchester (15 miles)
• Maiden Newton (8 miles)
• Axminster (15 miles)
The nearest bus stop is in the village approximately 700 yards away and is outside The Anchor Inn.
The village centre is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Hall, the beach is 20 minutes walk. The route to the beach- includes two hills and the village of Burton Bradstock is quaint and picturesque with narrow lanes and no pavements in many areas.
Parking is available at the beach. There is a charge during peak season however National Trust Members can park free of charge.
All booking correspondence and bed and breakfast menus can be provided in large print if requested.
We can arrange for shopping to be delivered to our self catering cottages, please ask about this when booking.
Arrival and Parking
Reception for both the Bed and Breakfast and Self Catering accommodation is at the main door of the Hall situated in a courtyard at the end of the drive. The courtyard is cobbled and uneven and there is one small step (15cm) up to the front door. The door is 125cm wide.
There is parking in the courtyard for Bed and Breakfast guests and for check in. Additional parking is available alongside the drive and outside each self catering cottage.
Luggage can be unloaded from the courtyard for Bed and Breakfast guests and from the parking areas adjacent to the self catering cottages. We are a small establishment with limited staff but if you need special assistance with your luggage please do ask.
Main Entrance
Access to the Bed and Breakfast rooms is through the entrance hall with a door (88 cms wide) into the main hall with two steps down (16cm depth) and then a long wide staircase with 22 steps up to the first floor landing where the three rooms are located. Due to the period nature of the building no lift is available.
Public Areas – General Internal
The entrance hall, main hall and guest lounge can be accessed as described above. The Dining Room for Bed and Breakfast guests also lies off the main hall.
The entrance hall has a smooth tiled floor. The main hall, lounge and dining room are wooden parquet floors. The lounge has a large Chinese rug covering the main floor area.
Public Areas – Dining Room and Lounges
Both rooms have level access from the main hall through doors which are 78 cms wide.
The lounge has a variety of sofas and easy chairs with arms. Several of the pieces are period Arts and Crafts antiques and very heavy to move. Please do ask for assistance if required. Additional desk chairs can be provided in preferred. Teletext TV is provided with remote control together with DVD player.
The dining room has a variety of moveable antique dining tables and chairs with a range of leg configurations and clearances suitable for most needs. If you provide details we can move furniture as required and reserve the appropriate table for you for the duration of your stay.
We are licensed for the sale of alcohol and a wine list is available.
Laundry
There is no laundry service for the Bed and Breakfast rooms. If you would like us to organise the cleaning of an item through a local dry cleaners please ask. Self catering units have private laundry facilities.
Shop
There are a number of glass display cabinets in the lobby with items for sale. The items will vary over time but are usually locally produced crafts. These can be purchased through reception.
Leisure Facilities
There are no specialist leisure facilities.
Outdoor facilities
Guests are free to enjoy the 6 acres of gardens, woodland and formal terraces in the grounds. There are a number of paths around the grounds which are undulating and uneven in places. The paths may become muddy in wet weather. The terrace can be accessed either from the cobbled courtyard via a paved, level pathway.
The terrace is paved and has a ramp as well as steps between its two split levels. There are a number of stone and wooden benches to sit on.
There is flight of six steps down to the lawn area but level access is available from the main driveway and through a gateway at the far end of the terrace.
Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting, Clubs, Entertainment
Conferences, meetings and events are held by special arrangement only in the public rooms described above or, occasionally, in marquee facilities on the lawn. Organisers of such events should inform the hall of any special arrangements required for those attending.
Any other guests seeking to book at the same time will be notified on any planned events and the impact this may have on their stay.
Guest Accommodation
Emergency procedures are clearly written in large print.
Television with teletext and remote control, radio alarm and coffee/tea making facilities are provided.
Light switches are at traditional heights and bedside table lamps are provided.
Bedding is all duck and goose down and Egyptian cotton.
Non feather bedding is available on request.
All rooms are non smoking.
Telephone Reception
Mobile phone reception is limited in Burton Bradstock. At Norburton Hall the Vodaphone network has a full signal. For other networks the best place to receive a signal is outside The Anchor Inn, on the corner of Shadrach and the Coast Road.
